Elimination of EPS in pontoon manufacturing
MSI Iberica, 2024
MSI Ibérica, a manufacturer of pontoons and coastal engineering solutions, is addressing a growing concern within the sector: the environmental impact on marine environments associated with floating infrastructures.
Currently, many pontoons incorporate EPS as a flotation material. Although it is a widely used technical solution, its degradation and fragmentation can contribute to the generation of microplastics, with direct effects on water quality and coastal ecosystems.
In response, a new construction system and a material alternative have been developed that maintain buoyancy and structural performance, offering an effective and more environmentally friendly solution designed to reduce environmental impact while preserving durability and industrial feasibility.
