Expormim, 2023

Expormim, a manufacturer of design furniture, requested a strategy to move forward in the energy decarbonization of its factory, with an initial focus on the transition to biofuels and on evaluating their improvement potential.

The work included a comparative assessment of different alternatives, analyzing their performance in terms of CO₂ emissions and economic cost. The analysis showed that first-generation biofuels currently available at commercial scale can lead to counterproductive outcomes, both due to their real environmental impact and their efficiency and cost in an industrial context.

Based on this diagnosis, the key was to restructure the strategy from an operational standpoint, placing emphasis on improving the efficiency of production lines, reducing energy consumption, and optimizing processes. In parallel, the potential for on-site photovoltaic self-generation was assessed as a complementary lever. The result is a concrete roadmap to effectively reduce emissions, with both technical and economic viability.
