Development of closed-loop recycled fibers from fishing nets
Internal R&D, 2024
Fishing net waste recovered through Gravity Wave, initially destined for conventional recycling routes such as injection-grade pellets or pressed boards. Although technically viable, these solutions showed significant limitations in terms of cost, quality of the resulting material, and real suitability for high-value applications.
Our work consisted of an industrial reconceptualization of the recycling approach, rethinking both the objective and the transformation chain to maximize material performance. The result was the development of a closed-loop recycling route aimed at obtaining a new fiber with very high performance, comparable to that of virgin material and suitable for reintroduction into demanding applications without significant loss of quality.
