Development of textile fibers from mixed post-consumer textile waste
I+D interna, 2024
Development of textile fibers from mixed post-consumer textile waste, originating from fractions that are usually rejected in recycling plants due to their lack of homogeneity and the difficulty of sorting them with sufficient purity. This involves a typical blend of fibers such as cotton, polyester, viscose, and wool, which currently limits their valorization and complicates their reintegration into high-quality textile loops.
From this complex stream, it has been possible to develop a stable and consistent yarn, with a sufficient level of quality to become a viable material for application. Due to its structure and inherent characteristics, this fiber is not intended to be reintegrated into highly demanding conventional textile processes, but it does open up a very promising field in home textiles and interior solutions, where performance, texture, and material character provide distinctive added value.
