Toxicological assessment of materials for the manufacture of school furniture and design of alternatives
Grau Space, 2025
In collaboration with Grau, one of the leading manufacturers of school equipment in the sector, this project aimed to reinforce product quality within safe environments where children and adolescents coexist on a daily basis.
This work is a direct continuation of a previous corporate-level project focused on evaluating the main environmental, toxicological, and circularity-related vectors associated with the company’s products and processes. Based on this initial diagnosis, the focus shifted to a specific and critical application: school desks, due to their constant exposure, direct contact, and high production volumes.
As a result, eight material alternatives were developed for the manufacture of school desks, combining high circular content, a low carbon footprint, and optimized performance in terms of environmental health, with very low or near-zero VOC emissions. The project aims to offer viable and scalable solutions capable of raising product standards without compromising industrial performance or competitiveness.
